The Aguirrebarrena company is a human-scale company that wishes to promote French artisanal fishing products and bring to life the gastronomic traditions of our regions.

In 1984, Mr. Aguirrebarrena started fishing for glass eels, eels, lampreys, salmon and shad in the Adour. After a few years of fishing, in 1993, Mr. Aguirrebarrena decided to create his own freshwater fish trading business, starting with the processing and sale of his own catch. Today, the company is managed by his son who has decided to take over.

Atlantic & Méditerranean front

The company has been based in Saint-Vincent-de-Tyrosse in the Landes since the 1990s. But little by little, through hard work, it has developed and structured itself on the Mediterranean and Atlantic coasts.

On the Mediterranean coast, the company trades eels with a dense network of professional fishermen spread across the entire coast, from Perpignan to Marseille.


On the Atlantic coast, work is centralized around the eel fishing season, an area in which Aguirrebarrena is recognized for his seriousness and professionalism.

Experience & quality

Through our experience, we have acquired a great knowledge of the European eel. In close collaboration with fishermen and industry players, we are constantly experimenting with new working methods, whether with modern fishing, transport or storage techniques. Our goal, quality fish.

We follow and observe with an informed eye the variations in fishing through quotas but also through our vision on the ground. In fact, the work carried out all year round on the Eel, whether elver, yellow or silver, throughout the French territory, informs us of the overall evolution of the Eel stock in France.

Our company has twenty-five employees, all sensitive to the values provided by artisanal fishing. Our recruitment requires aquaculture training in order to obtain a suitable and qualified workforce.
